There are two directions clearly articulated in the 1999 State Guidelines in Indonesia: gender equality and justice; women’s empowerment and family welfare. To approach the vision, the Ministry of Women Empowerment is the national coordinator in gender mainstreaming tasks such as the integration of gender issues into all policies and programs. Introducing gender mainstreaming into regional government is also a priority mission since development programmes are often realized at regional level.
Echoing to APEC themes, the government of Indonesia is making efforts on enhancing the participation of women in economy. With the principle of mutual benefit, Indonesia is calling for more inputs for women economic activists in the SMEs. These inputs include capital, management, skills in production, quality control and marketing. Information Technology is other significant aspect to enhance women’s capacity in economic activities. In addition, the government of Indonesia firmly approves that the integration of gender issues into economic policies should be promoted. Further details are available at http://www.menegpp.go.id.
