Framework for the Integration of Women in APEC
Gender Analysis
Involvement of Women in APEC
Sex-Disaggregated Data

Based on APEC leaders’ recognition of gender as a cross-cutting theme in APEC, the Ministerial Meeting on Women held in Manila, the capital in the Philippines, approved the Framework for the Integration of Women in APEC in October, 1998.  The objective of this framework is to enforce women’s role in economic development, and it also served as the guidance for APEC economies to promote gender integration.

Framework for the Integration of Women in APEC is comprised of three inter-related elements: Gender Analysis, Collection and Use of Sex-Disaggregated Data, Involvement of Women in APEC.  This framework provides a practical guidance as the tool to progress related work, and further details are available at the web site of APEC Secretariat (www.apecsec.org.sg) or the web site of Chinese Taipei APEC Study Center (http://www.tier.org.tw/ctasc/all.htm).

After October 1999, AGGI took over the supervision of member economies’, APEC committees’ and working groups’ implementing progress of the Framework for the Integration of Women in APEC.   Later, in 2002, GFPN replaced AGGI to continue this work to achieve the ultimate ideal for APEC: Prosperous regional economy and balanced development in both sexes.
